Thank You for Attending the State Capture and Beyond

Multi-Stakeholder Meetings

Let’s build the campaign for transparency and accountability

Dear Colleagues and Allies,

The State Capture and Beyond Campaign team extends its warmest gratitude to you for attending the Cape Town Stakeholder Event on 29 August 2024. Your presence and active participation were invaluable, and we are deeply appreciative of the insightful conversations and the critical issues raised during the event.

A clear message that emerged from our discussions is the urgent need to address the pervasive corruption that continues to affect South Africa. There is a strong appetite not only to root out corruption but also to empower ordinary citizens with the knowledge and tools to ensure accountability and transparency in governance. The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by all attendees have opened exciting avenues for collaboration and action.

As the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) and Human Rights Media Trust (HRMT) continue to implement this campaign, we are committed to building on the momentum created by these meetings. We invite you to consider joining our efforts to raise awareness about anti- corruption and deepen public knowledge on accountability and transparency in South Africa.

Our Next Steps and How You Can Get Involved:

We are developing a comprehensive website, beyondstatecapture.org.za, to serve as a “one-stop” resource for everyone interested in our campaign. This website will include:
  • A synopsis of state capture and the Zondo Commission of Inquiry, with links to reports, transcripts, and related media.
  • A calendar of upcoming events and activities related to the State Capture and Beyond Campaign.
  • Toolkits, research reports, and other resources relevant to our objectives.
  • An evolving database of movements, organisations, and individuals engaged in the fight against corruption.

We would particularly like to invite you to be a part of our database. This database is designed to showcase your work and resources, making it easier for individuals and organisations to find partners, collaborators, or assistance in specific areas such as whistleblowing, transparency initiatives, or accountability efforts.

For example, if your organisation, ABC, is focused on whistleblowing, your entry in the database could include a link to your page, contact details, and relevant resources. This will allow potential whistleblowers or collaborators to easily find and connect with you.

We believe this database will not only benefit organisations like yours but also serve as a vital resource for ordinary South Africans looking to become better informed or seeking support in the anti-corruption space.

Looking Ahead:

We understand that you may need to consult within your organisation before deciding to join the database or explore other collaborations. We see this as an ongoing conversation and are here to support you in any way we can.

In the coming weeks and months, we will reach out with more information about the campaign’s progress and formally request your participation. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if you are interested in exploring additional ways to collaborate. Thank you once again for your participation and commitment to fostering accountability and transparency in South Africa. We look forward to working with you to deliver tangible and necessary resources to fight corruption.

Kind regards,
